On Thursday, August 24, 2023, the constitutional court advisors will examine three cases related to appeals against the suspension of the media group “La Gazette du Golfe” by the HAAC (High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication).
Following the suspension of the media group “La Gazette du Golfe” by the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC), three citizens have filed an appeal before the higher jurisdiction.
These appeals are scheduled to be reviewed during the public hearing on Thursday, August 24, 2023. The President of the Constitutional Court, Professor Dorothée Sossa, has indeed summoned the advisors on this date.
As a reminder, the HAAC suspended the media group “La Gazette du Golfe.” The radio, television, weekly newspaper, and digital platforms of this private media outlet were placed under provisional measures taken by the president of the HAAC. The media outlet was accused of promoting coup d’état in the coverage of information related to the political situation in Niger.
The sanction came after a statement was released on August 3, 2023, by the president of the regulatory institution warning the media against biased coverage of the political situation in Niger.
