The procedure to select the most representative candidate for the 2026 presidential election of the UPR (Union Progressiste le Renouveau) must be followed. This is essentially what Irénée Agossa is implying in response to Oswald Homéky’s comments about Olivier Boko.

Invited last Sunday on the private channel E-télé, Irénée Agossa, now a member of the political bureau of the Union Progressiste le Renouveau party, provided some nuances to the statements made by the Minister of Sports, Oswald Homéky, who seems to have already given his blessing to Olivier Boko in case he expresses a desire to represent the party “la vague jaune” in the 2026 presidential election.

Indeed, in his comments regarding the suggestion of Patrice Talon’s trusted associate, Oswald Homéky seems to indicate that there won’t be any other candidacy within the movement if Olivier Boko expresses the desire to succeed his friend.

“…He is the best-prepared among all of us, if he runs, all other ambitions must fade away,” Oswald Homéky had said. Furthermore, he argued that, in all sincerity, Olivier Boko is the one whose candidacy would easily unite all factions within the movement, and even outside it.

However, on E-télé last Sunday, Irénée, another member of the Union Progressiste le Renouveau party, emphasized the nuances. In his elaboration, he drew his young political brother’s attention to the fact that there is an internal procedure to designate the party’s candidate.

“If the wish expressed by Oswald Homéky doesn’t suit everyone, there will be others who will declare themselves, and we will see who is the most representative and who can lead the party to victory,” Irénée Agossa explained.

In this procedure, he continued, Oswald Homéky will have to fight to get his choice accepted within the party. “If the procedure is good, who can blame him,” Irénée Agossa affirmed, as if to say that this privilege won’t be handed to anyone on a silver platter.

It’s worth noting that the party’s president, Professor Joseph Djogbénou, whose ambition for the position is an open secret, is far from these debates, which he deems premature.
