The Court of Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism sentenced 18 alleged cybercriminals on Thursday, August 3, 2023, during a correctional hearing. They were involved in various online fraud cases.
Nearly twenty individuals prosecuted in various online fraud cases learned their fate during the hearing on Thursday, August 3. In its decision, the Court of Repression of Economic Offenses and Terrorism handed down prison sentences ranging from 5 to 7 years and fines ranging from one million to two million CFA francs.
Out of the 18 individuals prosecuted, 10 were specifically sentenced to 7 years in prison, of which 5 are firm sentences. Four individuals of Nigerian nationality were sentenced to 5 years in prison with probation and a fine of one million CFA francs. Four other individuals were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
These cybercriminals pose as investors and offer online loans to their victims. Others pretend to be recruiters.
