In an interview with the media outlet GOAL on Sunday, Bayern Munich’s defender Alphonso Davies named Ousmane Dembélé as the best player he has faced.
“He’s two-footed, fast, technical. It was very difficult, but I did my best,” said the Canadian international during his interview with GOAL. Over the past few years in the Champions League, the two players have crossed paths three times. On each occasion, Bayern Munich emerged victorious against FC Barcelona. Despite this, Alphonso Davies consistently struggled to contain the 2018 World Cup champion during these encounters, due to his exceptional attributes in terms of agility and speed.
During his time at FC Barcelona, Ousmane Dembélé recorded a total of 40 goals and 42 assists in 185 matches. Nevertheless, his performances at the Catalan club were frequently hindered by injuries, significantly limiting his output. Now at PSG, Ousmane Dembélé will strive to replicate the success he experiences on the national team alongside Kylian Mbappé.
On the other hand, Alphonso Davies aims to shine again on the continental stage with Bayern Munich. After being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the last edition of the Champions League by eventual winners Manchester City, the Bavarian club is determined to regain the European summit this season. And for that, they will clearly rely on their excellent Canadian defender. The Davies-Dembélé duel is likely to reoccur, much to the delight of fans.
