In comments reported by Footmercato on Saturday, Bayern Munich’s captain Joshua Kimmich came to the defense of Sadio Mané, whose first season in Bavaria was disappointing.

Since his arrival in Germany in the summer of 2022, Sadio Mané, the former Liverpool striker, has endured a very challenging season at Bayern Munich. Injuries, controversies, and inconsistent performances marked the Senegalese player’s first year in Bavaria. He was often targeted as being responsible for the club’s poor showing in the last season.

In fact, the Munich management decided to part ways with the former Reds forward this summer. The reigning African champion is on the verge of joining Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Before leaving the club, Mané still received support from his teammate Joshua Kimmich. Kimmich believes that the Senegalese player is not solely responsible for Bayern Munich’s disappointing season.

“He had a very good first half of the season and had good statistics. It was not solely his fault that things were not going well for us. The entire season was not good for us,” firmly laments the German international, as reported by Footmercato. This statement should bring some comfort to Mané, even though some may feel it comes a bit late given the turn of events.
