Expelled during the first Liga match between FC Barcelona and Getafe (0-0) last Sunday, Xavi has been suspended for two matches, as reported by Marca this Wednesday afternoon.
FC Barcelona began defending their Liga title last Sunday with an away match against Getafe. The reigning champions could only manage a goalless draw. The match was particularly disjointed, marked by excessive aggression, and the referee’s decisions have already sparked controversy. Barcelona’s coach, Xavi, was notably sent off.
As indicated in the match report by referee Soto Grado, Xavi was expelled for “leaving the technical area with raised arms towards my fourth official’s area, openly protesting against one of my decisions, after being previously warned by my fourth official. Once expelled, he remained in the tunnel of the dressing room, needing to be informed of his expulsion by the field delegate.”
This Wednesday, the sanction for the Spanish coach was announced. Xavi has received a two-match suspension, as reported by Marca. Therefore, Xavi won’t be able to be on the sidelines for Barcelona’s matches against Cadiz and Villarreal. Raphinha, who was also expelled against Getafe, has also received a two-match suspension and will miss the same matches as his coach.
