In a press conference on Wednesday morning, FC Barcelona coach Xavi confirmed Ousmane Dembélé’s departure. The French international will join PSG in the coming hours.
What started as a mere rumor a few days ago is now a done deal. Ousmane Dembélé will indeed leave FC Barcelona and join PSG, who made him an attractive offer. The news was confirmed by FC Barcelona’s coach in a press conference after his team’s friendly victory against AC Milan (1-0). Notably, Ousmane Dembélé did not participate in that match.
“He told us he wanted to leave and that he had an offer from PSG. It’s a personal decision, and I feel bad because we took good care of him, but he has this proposal, and that’s why I didn’t play him. It’s the law of the market, and we cannot compete with this offer; it’s beyond our reach. I wish him all the happiness in the world because he has given us a lot,” Xavi stated, as reported by Sport.
He added, bitterly, “A bit disappointed, yes, but he told us he had spoken with Luis Enrique and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, and there was no way to convince him.” Ousmane Dembélé’s departure for PSG is now beyond doubt. It is now just a matter of waiting for the final details to be sorted out so that the Parc des Princes residents can officially announce their new signing.
This is undoubtedly a major coup by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and his management. On the other hand, FC Barcelona will have to quickly find a replacement for one of their best attackers.
