Before the US Open draw on Thursday, Novak Djokovic moved to the second position in the men’s tennis rankings after defeating the world number one, Carlos Alcaraz, to win the Cincinnati Open on Sunday.
Defeating Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday, Novak Djokovic climbed to the second place in the ATP rankings. The Serbian player prevailed over the Spanish opponent at the Cincinnati Masters 1000. He secured a victory of 5-7, 7-6 (9/7), 7-6 (7/4) in a match lasting three hours and took revenge on the player who had defeated him in the Wimbledon final on July 17.
In the ranking released this Monday, Novak surpassed Daniil Medvedev, who was eliminated in the eighth-finals by Alexander Zverev. Djokovic also reduced Alcaraz’s lead at the top of the rankings to 20 points. Danish player Holger Rune rose to the 4th place, overtaking Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas, who dropped three places. Zverev climbed five places to be ranked 12th.
