In a recent interview with the media “Investir au pays,” Asalfo, the leader of the legendary Ivorian group Magic System, revealed that he declined an extravagant offer of 50 million CFA francs to leave his group.
In the Ivorian music scene, Magic System stands as a beacon, proudly carrying the banner of Côte d’Ivoire and Africa on a global scale. Founded in the 1990s, this iconic group, composed of four members, has steadfastly stayed the course, avoiding the dissensions that have affected other formations such as “Salopards” or “Poussins-chocs” of artists Yodé & Siro, who are now scattered.
During a recent interview with “Investir au pays,” Asalfo, the charismatic leader of Magic System, shared an anecdote that reveals his unwavering commitment to the group. He disclosed that he was tempted by a lucrative offer of 50 million CFA francs to leave Magic System and pursue his career as a solo artist. However, he did not succumb to this temptation.
“At the time, I declined an offer of 50,000,000 CFA francs from someone to leave my group and abandon the others because they believed I was the only one making the group. I refused because I didn’t want to carry a heavy conscience throughout my career. At that time, I had only 1,800,000 CFA francs, so naturally what was proposed to me was quite tempting, but I refused because when you have three people with you, and you have built something together, and despite the success, today who would accept putting you in the forefront without a leadership war, at some point, you have to know that there is a sacrifice that these people have made,” declared the commissioner of the Festival des musiques urbaines d’Anoumabo.
To conclude, the Zouglou singer stated that the Magic System group would not be where it is today if the other three members were not with him.
