The Chief of Defence Staff of the Nigerian Army has responded to the possibility of a military intervention by ECOWAS in Niger and indicated that his troops are ready to intervene as soon as they receive the order.
Indeed, the President of Nigeria stated that he would take action if the problems faced by the coup plotters persisted. He also declared that no one would support a military takeover. Democracy must be defended, and this must continue.
General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria, is confident in defeating the coup plotters who overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum. “We are ready, and as soon as we receive the order to intervene, we will do it. We are absolutely sure of success. We will not give them the chance to succeed. Everyone is taking retaliatory measures, and our president is in discussion with his counterparts from neighboring countries. We are convinced that the coup plotters knew that what they were doing would not be tolerated. We are sure of victory over them,” he declared to RFI.
Furthermore, discussions are ongoing between the Nigerian president and his counterparts from neighboring countries to take retaliatory measures, General Musa emphasized. Moreover, he expresses his confidence in the failure of the coup plotters because he believes they knew their actions would not be accepted. He firmly guarantees that these coup plotters will be defeated.
