Arsène Wenger, FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development, believes that the Super Eagles have incredible talent to become a football powerhouse but they have not been able to reach their full potential, as reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Nigeria will host São Tomé and Príncipe this Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo for the 6th round of the 2023 CAN qualifiers. The Super Eagles have won the CAN trophy three times, despite having reached the finals seven times.
They also claimed gold in the men’s football event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, as well as silver in the Beijing Olympics and bronze in the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Despite their achievements on the global stage, former Arsenal manager Wenger believes that the Eagles are underperforming given the abundance of talent. “Nigeria has incredible talent, but they are one of the great underperformers in world football,” said Arsène Wenger.
The Frenchman is one of the most decorated managers in English football, having won three Premier League titles, a record seven FA Cups, and two Manager of the Year awards.
