Recruited by Arsenal this summer, Justin Timber will be absent for a “certain period” after an injury, announced the Gunners in a statement on Wednesday. Coach Mikel Arteta will therefore have to do without his new player for an extended period.
Acquired during this summer’s transfer window from Ajax for a fee of €45 million, including bonuses, Jurriën Timber made his official debut for Arsenal over the weekend, during the first matchday of the Premier League (a 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest).
Unfortunately, the Dutch defender suffered a knee injury during the game. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Gunners announced that their player “sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.” The 22-year-old player will undergo surgery in the coming days, which will keep him out of action for most of the season.
“After undergoing detailed examinations with specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien Timber sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee. Jurrien will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be unavailable for a certain period. The support and expertise of our medical team, and everyone at the club, will now be used to focus on Jurrien’s rehabilitation program, to ensure that he recovers well and returns to play as soon as possible,” the Arsenal statement reads.
This is a major setback for Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta, who was counting on his new recruit. The Dutch coach must now find effective replacements for him.
