With a superb goal from their star striker, Cristiano Ronaldo, Al Nassr crushed Monastir (4-1) on Monday in the Arab Club Champions Cup. A well-deserved victory for the Saudi Arabian team as they continue their march towards the title.
After being held to a goalless draw by Al Shabab last week, Al Nassr reinvigorated their title campaign in the Arab Club Champions Cup. The Saudi Arabian runners-up secured a convincing win against US Monastir on the second matchday of the tournament. The match took place at King Fahd Sports City in Ta’if on Monday, and the Arabian Peninsula club emerged victorious with a 4-1 scoreline. This crucial triumph puts Al Nassr back at the top of Group C, tied on points with AL Shabab.
On the other hand, the Tunisian club is eliminated from the competition after this latest defeat. Nevertheless, the Monastir team briefly showed a glimmer of hope when Ali Lawgini scored an own goal, leveling the score at 1-1. However, Cristiano Ronaldo, possibly fueled by the equalizer, regained the lead for Al-Nassr with a brilliant header.
It was a beautiful goal from the Portuguese superstar, marking his first of the 2023-2024 season and allowing him to set another record. At 38 years old, the former Real Madrid striker has now scored in at least one goal in the last 22 seasons, bringing his career total to 839 goals.
Following Ronaldo’s goal, Al Nassr secured their victory with goals from Abdulelah Al-Amri and Abdulaziz Saud Al Elewai. They will face Egypt’s Zamalek in the quarter-finals, who defeated Monastir 4-0 last Friday. On the other hand, Al Shabab will be pitted against the Tunisians, who will aim to finish their tournament with a victory.
