Air France, the airline company, has announced the extension of the suspension of its flights to Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, following the closure of Niger’s airspace after a coup d’état in July.
Air France, one of the major air carriers connecting Europe to Africa, has confirmed the extension of the suspension of its flights to the Sahel region. According to information obtained by AFP, the French company has announced that the suspension of its flights to Mali and Burkina Faso will be maintained until August 31, while flights to Niger will remain interrupted “until further notice.”
This decision to suspend flights comes in response to the closure of Niger’s airspace, an event that occurred following a coup d’état on July 26. The company’s flights to Bamako, the capital of Mali, Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, and Niamey, the capital of Niger, had been suspended since August 7, causing disruptions in travel plans for many passengers.
The extended interruption of Air France flights to the Sahel highlights the challenges and constraints that airlines can face due to unforeseen geopolitical events. The company’s priority remains the safety and well-being of its passengers, which led to the decision to maintain the suspension of flights in the region affected by political instability.
