“Business Insider Africa has published a list of the ten countries on the continent with the highest GDP per capita, based on data from the TradingEconomics platform. The top three spots are taken by Seychelles, Mauritius, and Libya.
According to data provided by TradingEconomics, a data platform that offers information on 196 countries, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita in Africa, a resource-rich continent, varies significantly from one country to another.
Due to growth in the tourism and service sectors, countries like Seychelles and Mauritius have relatively high GDP per capita. However, several sub-Saharan African countries like Chad and the Central African Republic have low GDP per capita due to political instability, limited infrastructure, and limited access to education and healthcare.
List of the top 10 countries with the highest GDP per capita:
- Seychelles ($17,117 per capita)
- Mauritius ($10,545)
- Libya ($8,151)
- Botswana ($6,657)
- Gabon ($6,642)
- South Africa ($6,019)
- Equatorial Guinea ($5,871)
- Namibia ($4,358)
- Egypt ($4,089)
- Eswatini (Swaziland) ($4,045)
However, Burundi, the Central African Republic, and Congo occupy the lowest ranks on the list.”
