Following the 2023 African Cup of Nations, where Nigeria lost to Ivory Coast, the Super Eagles’ goalkeeper was awarded millions of nairas along with other presents in kind.

The finale of the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which took place on Sunday, February 11th, 2024, saw two football heavyweights clash: Nigeria and Ivory Coast. In this highly anticipated match, the Elephants of Ivory Coast emerged victorious, with the Super Eagles of Nigeria left without the coveted trophy.

In recognition of the national team’s efforts, Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, allocated a special bonus as well as other material rewards for the team.

Stanley Nwabali, the star goalkeeper for the Super Eagles, in particular, received national generosity. In addition to the bonuses given by the president, his Instagram followers surged from 27,000 to 700,000. Being from Rivers State, he was also awarded 34 million nairas and an additional 10 million nairas from the local state authorities.

These recent accolades add to an already impressive list of awards Stanley Nwabali has previously received, including an amount of 40 million nairas, a plot of land, the ownership of an apartment, and numerous national and regional honors.
