Cameroon faced a loss against Senegal on the evening of Friday, January 19, 2024. Some time after the match, the Cameroonian coach Rigobert Song broke his silence.
In the group stage match of the AFCON 2023, Cameroon suffered a defeat against Senegal on the evening of Friday, January 19, 2023, with the scoreboard reading 3-1 in favor of the Senegalese team. This result has put a damper on their chances of progressing further in the tournament. Having garnered only one point after two matches played in Group C, Rigobert Song’s team, which has recently faced a barrage of criticism, is in a tricky position. Following the match, the Cameroonian coach did not hesitate to give an honest assessment of his team, acknowledging that they are currently not living up to their past glories.
“Today, I think I said it. We have a young team. It must be recognized that it is not the same as in years gone by. We have to acknowledge this and understand that we are now rebuilding a team for the future. We need a little more time. Maybe I will leave, but there needs to be continuity for whoever comes in,” declared the coach.
Should there be disappointment in this AFCON, the president of the federation, Samuel Eto’o, will need to respond.
