In a recent media statement, rapper A$AP Rocky revealed that he refused to connect Congolese singer Fally Ipupa with his wife Rihanna due to an unusual gesture he deemed disrespectful.
It’s no longer a secret that Congolese artist Fally Ipupa, who has previously collaborated with international artists such as R. Kelly and Olivia from the G-Unit group, dreams of collaborating with Rihanna. He even revealed this during his appearance on Canal+’s “La boîte à question” show in 2021.
However, hopes of this collaboration seem to have been dampened by a misunderstanding about how to address A$AP Rocky, Rihanna’s partner.
During an interview, A$AP Rocky revealed that Fally Ipupa had contacted him to negotiate a collaboration with Rihanna. However, the gesture of the Congolese singer inadvertently created a bad first impression. The rapper criticized Dicap la Merveille for addressing him as “bro” (brother) instead of Mister. This term triggered a sense of disrespect in A$AP Rocky, as he stated himself in a segment reported by Congolese media.
This communication mishap had consequences for the collaboration request. A$AP Rocky explained that he wasn’t Rihanna’s manager, and he declined the proposal due to the perceived lack of respect in Fally Ipupa’s approach. “Fally Ipupa contacted me for a feature with Rihanna. Firstly, I’m not my wife’s manager. Secondly, I refused because I didn’t appreciate his way of addressing me. He called me ‘My bro’ instead of Mister. He’s the one who needs visibility, so he should be respectful. After that, we’ll see what happens,” said the rapper and father of Rihanna’s children.
While this statement attributed to A$AP Rocky is already sparking heated debate among internet users, the Congolese singer has chosen to remain silent for the time being.
