One of the young candidates who will participate in the Miss Belgium beauty pageant next September revealed this week that she lived on the streets for three years, recounting her past far from luxury.
Axelle Rimanque, a resident of Louvain, is a candidate in the Miss Belgium pageant. The 23-year-old woman revealed that she was homeless for several years, as reported by Sudinfo. She now works in a placement agency in the Horeca sector and has experienced difficult times. Before finding accommodation in an apartment, she spent three years on the streets. She granted an interview to Sudinfo.
“I was homeless for 3 years, sleeping in different shelters or at friends’ houses, and even outdoors. It was linked to the problems I had with my family. I had to leave home at 18. My then-boyfriend was also kicked out of his home. So I wasn’t alone (…) Together, we wandered around, sleeping at friends’, at my sisters’, or at his,” she explained.
She later sought assistance from a social support center before she and her partner separated. “I quickly met someone else. I had the opportunity to sleep with him often, until I had a falling out with his stepfather. I then slept in parks, in the cold of winter, with just my jacket to keep me warm,” the candidate recounted.
