Two teachers from the “La Grâce Divine” secular private school (EPL) have been suspended from all educational activities in the educational region of Grand-Lomé, Togo. This disciplinary measure was announced in a service note issued by the Regional Director of Education, Mawouna GADEWA, and made public on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.
BATAWILA Gnilégéba, a teacher in charge of the CE2 class, and GBLEDJO Kossi, in charge of CM1 at the “La Grâce Divine” secular private school (EPL), are no longer allowed to participate in educational activities in the Grand-Lomé educational region. They have been sanctioned for acts of gratuitous and deliberate violence against their underage students.
The suspension decision made by Mr. GADEWA aims to “protect the physical and moral integrity of children who are entrusted to teachers by their parents,” as stated in the press release. The Regional Director urges all supervisory staff to rigorously ensure the implementation of the measures outlined in the note, emphasizing the crucial importance of this step.
In a context where the prevention and eradication of violence in schools are at the forefront of the concerns of the Minister of Primary, Secondary, Technical, and Vocational Education, Professor Dodzi Kokoroko, the suspension of these teachers comes as a disciplinary measure in line with current educational priorities.
