Leader in Africa, Morocco has dropped one spot in the overall ranking published this Thursday by FIFA. Benin, on the other hand, remains stuck in 20th place on the continent (93rd in the world rankings).
FIFA updated its updated ranking of men’s national football teams on Thursday, July 20, 2023. The list has seen very few changes compared to the last ranking released in June. In Africa, Morocco remains the leader. After finishing fourth in the 2022 World Cup, the Atlas Lions retain their top spot on the continent but have dropped one place in the overall ranking. From 13th in June, Walid Regragui’s men now occupy the 14th place in the world.
For the rest of the top 10 ranking in Africa, there have been no changes. Senegal remains in second place and 18th in the world. Despite their victory against Brazil, Senegal maintains its 2nd and 18th position. This status quo is due to the absence of matches played during the month of July. The podium is completed by Tunisia, closely followed by Algeria (4th) and Egypt (5th). The previous ranking placed Benin at 93rd in the world, and they have not moved either. The Squirrels remain stuck in the 20th position in Africa.
