Starting from July 20, 2023, in Burkina Faso, taxes will be levied on telecommunication services, re-subscription to private television channels, and the sale of non-subdivision land to support the fight against terrorism.
On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, the Burkinabé Minister of Economy, Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, announced new taxes to support the war effort in the fight against terrorism. Accordingly, purchasers of telecommunication services will now be required to pay a 5% tax per transaction. As for re-subscriptions to private television channels, a 10% tax will be applied. Regarding the sale of non-subdivision land before a notary or bailiff, a 1% contribution will be requested.
“These measures stem from the vote on June 24 by the ALT and the promulgation on June 30 by President Ibrahim Traoré of a law establishing special contributions on certain goods and services for the benefit of the FSP,” justified the Minister of Economy, as reported by lefaso.net.
In January of this year, the Burkinabé authorities created the Patriotic Support Fund to support the fight against terrorism. The creation of the Patriotic Support Fund aims to have an appropriate instrument for collecting and centralizing financial contributions to support and accompany the action of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland. Contributions will be collected through the public treasury network, mobile phone accounts, and any other authorized channels.
