The Glo-Djigbe Industrial Zone (GDIZ) in Benin has made its first export of clothing to the United States. Nearly 70,000 pieces of clothing, all made in Benin, have left the industrial zone, marking a significant milestone since its establishment three years ago.
Benin is thus becoming a major player in the development of the textile industry. “We have worked with various brands around the world to qualify Benin as a destination for textile products, that is, a destination where clothing is made,” said a representative of the GDIZ.
Several clothing delivery contracts have been signed with various brands, including the Tissu brand, based in the United States and owner of a chain of clothing stores in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. “Today, thanks to the genius of our compatriots who work in this zone and who have been trained in the textile trade for months, we will be able to deliver the first shipment of colonists and children’s polo shirts,” the representative added.
This achievement was made possible thanks to the collaboration of these partners. The State has entrusted the responsibility of setting up a textile production industrial unit to a reference technical partner. The goal is to transform the entire cotton production of the country.
The GDIZ hosts several other industries, including the transformation of cashew nuts and soybeans. The general administrator of the Glo-Djigbe Special Economic Zone worked closely with the general director of the CIPI to ensure the smooth operation of the zone and to offer good working conditions to the young recruits.
A new opportunity for Benin The first export of clothing from the GDIZ is a new opportunity for Benin. It shows that the country has significant potential in the textile industry. With continued investment in the sector, Benin could become a major player in textile production in Africa.
The first export of clothing from the GDIZ is also good news for young Beninese. It offers them new job opportunities in a booming sector.
