The National Police of Burkina Faso announced on Thursday the arrest of a woman in Ouagadougou, as part of the fight against illicit drug trafficking in urban areas.
The Police Department of District No. 03 in Burkina Faso put an end to the illicit activities of a network engaged in the illegal sale of drugs in the city of Ouagadougou. Thanks to the collaboration of citizens, the main suspect, a woman in her forties, was apprehended by investigators.
Indeed, since 2016, the suspect had been working as a pharmacy assistant and took advantage of her position as manager of the pharmaceutical depot at a Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS) in the area to obtain illicit drugs from the market at low prices, usually around 20,000, 40,000, 50,000, or 60,000 FCFA. After purchasing the drugs, she stored them at her home and, during her duty days, she brought the medications to the depot to sell them to CSPS patients. She took advantage of the situation especially when the depot experienced stock shortages.
It is worth noting that she had been involved in the illegal purchase and sale of drugs within the CSPS and with her acquaintances since 2019. During her arrest, batches of drugs, mosquito nets, rolls of bandages, syringes, and several other items were seized from her possession.
