The Syli player felt discomfort during the warm-up just before the start of the second pre-season match, which Werder Bremen won 3-1 against VfB Oldenburg.

Out for several weeks Forced to leave the pitch, the captain of the Guinean national team (28 years old, 54 caps, 12 goals) underwent medical examinations shortly after. “The new recruit Naby Keita suffered a groin injury during the warm-up before the friendly match against VfB Oldenburg and will be absent for several weeks,” announced Werder Bremen in a statement. “This is extremely bitter for Naby and for us as a team,” reacted coach Ole Werner in comments relayed on the club’s official website. “We will now do everything we can to get Naby back in shape as quickly as possible,” assured the 35-year-old coach, who nevertheless does not intend to part ways with his star player during the preseason training camp.

“However, we must assume that Naby will not be available for the first few matchdays. Despite his injury, Naby will travel to Zillertal with us. We have optimal conditions there for his rehabilitation, and he will also continue to integrate into the team,” explained the German coach.
