“The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has delivered its verdict in the dispute between OM, Watford, and Pape Gueye. And the international Senegalese player has been handed a heavy fine.
The Pape Gueye case finally comes to an end with a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport. In July 2020, the player had signed with Watford before choosing OM, leading to a legal dispute. The Marseille club had been sanctioned with a two-transfer window recruitment ban, which has now been lifted by the CAS.
However, Pape Gueye remains suspended for 4 months and has been fined €2.5 million for terminating his contract with Watford without just cause. OM can now focus on the upcoming season, while the player may encounter difficulties in finding a new club. This case will serve as a reminder for the Marseille club to exercise legal rigor in its transactions.”
