Accused by his critics of being responsible for the abrupt divorce between André Onana and the Cameroonian national team, Samuel Eto’o has categorically denied these allegations in an explosive video shared on social media.

Samuel Eto’o is firing back. After his strong response to his critics regarding his management of the Cameroonian Football Federation, where he is accused of signing contracts without the approval of the national body, the President of FECAFOOT has returned to the forefront. This time, his target is Henri Njalla Quan, a former member of the executive committee and vice-president of the organization, who claimed that the four-time African Ballon d’Or winner was behind André Onana’s banishment from the national team (27 years old, 30 caps).

“I delegated part of my powers to the coach because that’s what the President’s decree and my supervising minister require me to do. I don’t override the coach’s authority to do this or that. It’s a lie. Because if I had a problem with my ‘son’ (Onana, editor’s note), he wouldn’t have come to my room on the morning of the incident, and he knows it. In 2017, Onana wasn’t part of our national team; he didn’t even know he was the best goalkeeper in the world. I knew it, and I said it loud and clear. History speaks for itself,” declared the former Cameroonian striker in a video on Twitter, relayed by Afrik-Foot.

“It’s false”: Eto’o denounces a “lie” about Onana “Those who oppose me have said that he [Onana] came back because Eto’o brought Clarence Seedorf. Today, it’s because Eto’o has problems with Onana that he is not in the national team. That’s false,” emphasized the leader. “I hope that these children, wherever they are, understand and will understand that we have one love, and that’s the national team. My job is to protect all these children, but also because you asked me to be President of the Cameroonian Football Federation,” he continued.

Inter Milan goalkeeper André Onana had walked away from the Cameroonian national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Accused of insubordination by coach Rigobert Song, who had excluded him from the upcoming group stage matches, the Nkol Ngok-born player subsequently announced his international retirement.
