The second extraordinary session convened on Monday, July 17th, by Louis Vlavonou did not result in the designation of the Parliamentary Secretaries (SP) of the National Assembly (AN).
After a heated debate in the National Assembly on Monday, July 17th, the appointment of the Parliamentary Secretaries of the National Assembly and other members of national and regional organizations was postponed to Wednesday, July 19th, at the request of the parliamentary group Les Démocrates.
In a statement read by Nourénou Atchadé, the parliamentary opposition stated that they are not ready to choose their representatives and demanded a 48-hour moratorium.
This request was accepted by the President of the National Assembly, Louis Vlavonou, who suspended the session and rescheduled it for Wednesday, July 19th. It should be noted that the plenary session on Monday was convened following a decision by the Constitutional Court, which instructed the parliamentary group Les Démocrates to fill the vacant positions. Therefore, on Wednesday, the parliamentary opposition is required to comply by providing the names of their representatives to be included in the relevant organizations. This includes the permanent committees of the National Assembly and the Benin Human Rights Commission.
