Former Manchester United footballer and ex-Wales national team coach, Ryan Giggs, will not face a new trial for an allegation of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The British prosecution announced on Tuesday the dropping of charges against the former Red Devils defender.
The British justice system ordered on Tuesday the dropping of charges against Ryan Giggs, who was accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend and her sister in 2020. The two women had accused the former Wales national team manager of violently attacking his then-partner, Kate Greville, and her sister Emma, injuring the former’s elbow and lips.
The former Manchester United defender had already been tried in August last year, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. However, a new trial had been scheduled for the end of July 2023.
Ultimately, the English prosecution decided to drop the charges against the Welshman during a preliminary hearing held on Tuesday at Manchester Crown Court. Ryan Giggs “is deeply relieved that the charges have finally come to an end after almost three years of fighting to clear his name,” stated his lawyer, Chris Daw, after the hearing.
