French President Emmanuel Macron strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to end Russia’s participation in the agreement on the export of Ukrainian cereals.

The summit between the leaders of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) was marked by sharp criticism from French President Emmanuel Macron towards Russian President Vladimir Putin. Macron expressed his discontent with Putin’s decision to end Russia’s participation in the agreement on the export of Ukrainian cereals, describing this action as “a huge mistake.”

During a press conference at the end of the summit, Macron stated in English, “He has decided to turn food into a weapon (…) I think it’s a huge mistake.” This statement reflects growing concerns about the tense situation between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the potential impact on Russia’s relations with other countries, including France.

The agreement on the export of Ukrainian cereals is a key element of economic cooperation between Ukraine and Russia. By ending its participation in this agreement, Russia has chosen to restrict the export of Ukrainian cereals to its territory. This decision has significant repercussions on Ukrainian farmers, who rely on exports to Russia to sustain their economic activities.

Macron’s criticism also highlights broader concerns about the use of food as an economic weapon. This practice is seen as a means of political coercion, compromising trade relations and economic stability between countries.
