The party Les Démocrates announced during a press conference held on Monday, July 17, 2023, at the party’s headquarters in Cotonou that its National Council will be organized in Porto-Novo on July 22, 2023.
The Les Démocrates party plans to hold a National Council before its first regular congress, in accordance with its statutes. This council, scheduled for July 22, 2023, in Porto-Novo, will address the topic of the general elections in 2026. According to Stanislas Ahouandjinou, a party member, these elections are crucial for political parties as well as the entire Beninese people. The Les Démocrates party, as an opposition party, aims to involve its members in political action in order to meet the challenge of political alternation in 2026. The choice of the congress date, as well as the study of the national coordination’s report and the orientation of its activities, will also be discussed at this National Council.
According to Jude Lodjou, President of the National Council’s organizing committee, all important issues of the country will be discussed at this meeting, and the party will provide guidance to its members. The expected attendees at this National Council include members of the High Council, the national coordination, a representative from each electoral and communal coordination district, mass organizations, the party school, the strategic analysis watchdog cell, as well as two members of the national appeal commission. Other political parties and certain personalities of the country will also receive an invitation.
