WhatsApp, one of the most popular applications in the world, has experienced an outage in what seems to be a global outage, according to users from several countries. Few details are currently available.
The outage began around 9:00 PM and resumed at 9:50 PM (Benin time) on Wednesday, when users reported that they were unable to send or receive new messages. At the top of the screen, it simply says “Connecting….”
Users from around the world are reporting this outage. DownDetector reported receiving over 26,000 reports from all continents as of 9:25 PM. The cause of the outage is not known at the moment, and WhatsApp has not provided any updates at this time. This is not the first time WhatsApp has faced such an issue, with the last major international bug occurring on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
WhatsApp Messenger was founded by Jan Koum in 2009 and was later acquired by Facebook. In 2020, the app had over 2 billion users worldwide, making it the most popular mobile messaging app in the world. The current estimated number of users is around 2.7 billion.
