The Somali army has achieved a significant victory against the terrorist group Al-Shabab by eliminating 30 of its members, including two high-ranking officials, in a military operation near El-Qura.

The Somali National Army conducted a successful operation against the Al-Shabab terrorist group near El-Qura, spanning the Galgadud and Middle Shabelle regions in the central states of Galmudug and Hirshabele. According to the Somali Ministry of Defense, at least 30 terrorists, including two key commanders, were eliminated in this decisive operation.

General Abdullahi Ali Anod, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, confirmed that this operation is part of a series of military operations carried out in different regions of the country over the past week, resulting in the neutralization of 200 Al-Shabab militants. This series of successes reflects the commitment of the Somali armed forces in their fight against terrorism and violence that have plagued the country for many years.

Hirshabele State, where Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud recently visited, has been identified as a hotspot for Al-Shabab’s subversive activities. President Mohamud reiterated his determination to wage a “total war” against the terrorist group, enabling Somali forces to regain control of vast territories, including the coastal town of Haradhere, which had been under Al-Shabab’s control for over a decade.

The persistent instability in Somalia has been fueled by the terrorist activities of Al-Shabab and the Islamic State, who have carried out deadly attacks and sought to overthrow the Somali government. The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has also played a crucial role in supporting Somali forces in their efforts to counter the terrorist groups.

A complex and fragile security situation The victory of the Somali army in this operation against Al-Shabab demonstrates the country’s commitment to fighting terrorism and restoring stability. The joint efforts of the Somali forces and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have contributed to regaining control of vast areas that were once under the threat of terrorist groups.

However, it is important to note that the security situation in Somalia remains complex and fragile. The fight against terrorism requires ongoing coordination among Somali security forces, international peacekeeping forces, and other regional and international actors. The international community must continue to support the Somali people in their quest for lasting peace and stability.
