Amidst controversy, after having kissed a Spanish player on the cheek following the 2023 Women’s World Cup final, the president of the Spanish Football Federation is facing criticism from all sides. It is now the American legend Megan Rapinoe’s turn to strongly criticize Luis Rubiales.

“It made me think about all that we have to endure. There was another image that signaled such a deep level of misogyny and sexism in that federation and in that man (Rubiales, editor’s note) at the final whistle, just grabbing his crotch. In what kind of upside-down world are we? On the grandest stage, where you’re supposed to be celebrating, Jenni (Hermoso) has to be physically assaulted by this guy,” she angrily expressed in an interview with The Atlantic.

Megan Rapinoe is a legendary forward for the U.S. women’s national team. At 38 years old, she won the 2015 and 2019 Women’s World Cups with the U.S. team. She is now preparing to retire from her sports career with OL Reign and has already moved on from her international career after her participation in the recent World Cup.

Emergency Meeting Called by the Spanish Federation The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the upcoming extraordinary general assembly scheduled for Friday, August 25th. This meeting has been called in response to the pressing situation arising from the actions of the organization’s president. He made an unexpected gesture by kissing forward Jennifer Hermoso directly on the lips during the Women’s World Cup trophy presentation ceremony in Sydney.

“The Federation wishes to inform that internal procedures regarding integrity matters are underway,” states the RFEF’s statement released this Tuesday evening. This meeting could potentially lead to the resignation of Luis Rubiales. However, according to information reported by AS on Tuesday, he currently has no intention of stepping down.
