On the second day of Group E in the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the United States and the Netherlands faced each other in an exciting match that ended in a 1-1 draw. The game kicked off on Thursday night, and the Dutch started strong with Jill Roord opening the scoring in the 17th minute, sending the Oranje supporters into a frenzy of joy.

The defending champions, the United States, were not going to be easily discouraged. Their offensive play and tenacity kept the pressure on the Dutch throughout the first half, but they couldn’t convert their chances. In the second half, the intensity of the match remained high, and the United States managed to equalize in the 62nd minute through Lindsey Horan. Both teams, still level, are leading the group with 4 points each.

Portugal gets back on track In the other match of Group E, Portugal bounced back. After an opening 1-0 defeat against the Netherlands, the Portuguese women defeated Vietnam 2-0 on Thursday morning. They made the difference in the first half with goals from Encarnacao (7th minute) and Nazareth (21st minute).

Remaining in the 3rd position in the group, Portugal is still within reach of the United States and the Netherlands. In the final match, the Portuguese will seek qualification against the USA, who will be in a close battle with the Oranje for the top spot in the group.
