Cissé Cheick Sallah, an Ivorian Taekwondo athlete, has called the Ivorian Taekwondo Federation (FITKD) to account after noticing that his name was not on the list of athletes registered for the 2023 Taiyuan World Taekwondo Grand Prix, scheduled to take place in October.
“I wish to express my concern after realizing that my name is not on the final list of athletes registered for the 2023 Taiyuan World Taekwondo Grand Prix. A competition that is supposed to take place in just a month,” regretted the world’s number one Taekwondo athlete in the over 87kg category.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the situation, Cissé Cheick questioned the federation about the reasons for his absence on the registration list. “As the world’s number one athlete, with one year to go before the 2024 Paris Olympics, it is essential for me to participate in all important competitions to maintain my ranking and qualify directly by being in the top five of the world ranking.”
Similarly, Ruth Gbagbi has also expressed her discontent about the absence of Ivorian athletes from the Taiyuan Grand Prix in a letter to the National Olympic Committee (CNO). As a reminder, the Paris 2024 Olympics will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
