Morocco secured its ticket to the Round of 16 in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup after a 1-0 victory against Colombia on Thursday. The Lionesses of the Atlas join Nigeria and South Africa, who have also qualified for the second round.

Despite being drawn in tough groups, Africa has performed well in the first round of the final phase of the 2023 Women’s World Cup taking place in Oceania. The continent has three countries qualified for the Round of 16.

After Nigeria and South Africa, it is now Morocco’s turn to book their spot in the next stage of the tournament. The Lionesses of the Atlas defeated Colombia 1-0 on Thursday in the third match of Group H. The only goal of the game was scored by Anissa Lahmari towards the end of the first half. This was enough for the Moroccan team to finish in second place in the group, behind Colombia, and ahead of Germany, who were eliminated after drawing with South Korea 1-1 in the other match of the group.
